Acne Treatment

There are many types of acne. The most common type is acne vulgaris. There is now a treatment available that does not depend on medication called BLU light therapy. This is a good option if antibiotics have not worked for you, or if you choose not to use antibiotics. BLU light therapy can also be an additive treatment in conjunction with antibiotic treatments.

Treatments can be performed one to two times per week. After a few weeks the acne can reach a better controlled state or even resolve for a period of time. This is a great treatment for active teenage acne who would like improvement in skin appearance without over aggressive medication therapy.

Levulan Treatment

Levulan is a unique photodynamic therapy used to treat actinic keratosis (pre cancerous lesions). Actinic keratoses, if left untreated, can eventually evolve into squamous cell carcinomas (skin cancer) which is the second leading cause of skin cancer deaths in the united states. The Levulan treatment is for moderate or multiple actinic keratosis located on the face and scalp. This system has been proven effective in clinical testing, showing eight weeks after treatment cleared 100% of actinic keratosis in roughly two thirds of patients treated. This is a good alternative to multiple cryotherapy treatments with liquid nitrogen for patients with lots of sun damage to the face and scalp. The treatment is a two step process.

The first step is to apply Levulan topical solution to treatment area. The second step is to expose the area to a BLU-U light which activates the solution to destroy all pre cancerous or any other abnormal cells which have been over exposed to UV rays.
